The Essex Eagles slumped to their 4th defeat in this years tournament after the Somerset Sabres cruised to a compressive 143 run victory as fortress Chelmsford was once again breached by the away team.
Sabres skipper Marcus Trescothick (108) led the way, smashing 12 boundaries and 5 sixes on his way to an unbeaten century to leave the Eagles facing a mammoth run chase of 226.
Trescothick, shared a 3rd wicket stand of 127 with James Hildreth (64) as the Sabres bounced back from a torrid display with the bat against the Sussex Sharks last night after they were restricted to a total of just 90.
The Eagles, masters of setting big run chases at the County Ground were blown away in dramatic fashion after they collapsed to a total of just 82-9 with the injured Scott Styris unable to bat.
With the exception of Ravi Bopara (29), no other Eagles player troubled the Sabres bowling attack after they ripped through the line up to condemn the home side to a massive defeat.
