The Northamptonshire Steelbacks troubles in the Friends Life t20 continued as they slipped to a 23 run defeat against the Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Trent Bridge.
Faced with a run chase of 184, the County Championship Division Two leaders were restricted to a total of just 160-6 despite a 2nd wicket stand of 58 between Bilal Shafayat and Niall O’Brien.
The pair came together in the 2nd over after Rob Newton had been dismissed by Darren Pattinson, having seen their partnership reach 58, O’Brien (26) was dismissed by Andy Carter in the 10th over.
Shafayat (37) quickly followed before Andrew Hall (3) and Johan Botha (7) failed to fire as the visitors slumped to just 100-5 at the end of the 15th over.
With the game slipping away, Alex Wakely (61) completed a well deserved half century but the 22 year old’s contribution wasn’t enough to stop the Steelbacks slipping to defeat.
Having batted first the Outlaws recorded a total of 183-6 thanks in part to Adam Voges (49) and David Hussey (33) who ended the innings as the home side’s top scorers.
Rikki Wessels (29) and Andrew Hales (17) offered support to help the Outlaws register their 6th win to move four points clear at the top of the Friends Life t20 Northern group.
