The Lancashire Lightning suffered a night to forget at the Riverside Stadium after they were blown away by the Durham Dynamos who cruised to a 83 run victory.
Faced with a victory target of 201, the Lightning collapsed to a total of 117 thanks to some impressive bowling by Liam Plunkett who picked up five wickets to leave the visitors in disarray.
Plunkett struck to remove Stephen Moore (20), Steven Croft (2), Karl Brown (0) and Gareth Cross (7) in quick succession to leave the Lightning 48-5 at the start of the 7th over.
The England international struck again to remove Jordan Clark (10) two overs later and although Luke Proctor (23) offered some resistant’s the Dynamos cruised to a simple victory.
Having been put into bat, the Dynamos recorded a total of 200-6 thanks in part to a brilliant 60 from skipper Dale Benkenstein who smashed six boundaries and two sixes to leave the Lightning facing a massive run chase.
Phil Mustard (36) and Plunkett (27) offered support as the Dynamos took control of a must win match to kick start their Friends Life t20 campaign.
