The Kent Spitfires maintained their hopes of securing a place in the Friends Life t20 quarter finals thanks to a six wicket victory over the Surrey Lions at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham.
Faced with a run chase of 151 the Spitfires cruised to victory with 11 balls to spare thanks to Martin van Jaarsveld (62) who smashed a quick fire half century after the early loss of Joe Denly (5) and Robert Key (1).
van Jaarsveld and Azhar Mahmood shared a 3rd wicket stand of 122 to put the home side in control after Dirk Nannes picked up two early wickets to leave the Spitfires 8-2.
With the Spitfires cursing to victory the Lions struck back to remove the pair but despite the loss Sam Northeast (17) and Darren Stevens (13) steered the home side to victory.
Having batted first the Lions were indebted to Tom Maynard who smashed 76 runs from just 46 deliveries to help the visitors record a total of 150-4 after they had been reduced to 38-3.
Steve Davies (27) and Zander de Bruyn (25) enjoyed vital cameo’s to leave the Spitfires facing a run chase of 151 which proved and east target for the home side.
