The Worcestershire Royals cantered to a six wicket victory over the Northamptonshire Steelbacks in a one sided game at Campbell Park in Milton Keynes.
Faced with a run chase of 130, Vikram Solanki (62) and Daryl Mitchell (40) saw the visitors home with a 5th wicket stand of 85, to strengthen their chances of securing a place in the Friends Life t20 quarter finals.
Despite restricting the Royals to a total of just 45-4 in the 8th over the Steelbacks were unable to break Solanki and Mitchell’s match winner partnership which leaves the hosts rooted to the bottom of the North group.
Having batted first the Steelbacks were restricted to a total of just 129-9 after Saeed Ajmal (14-4) and Aneesh Kapil (9-3) tore though the home sides line up with ease.
Kapil led the way removing Rob White (33), Naill O’Brien (33) and Alex Wakely (10) to leave the Steelbacks 80-4 at the end of the 12th over.
With the home side on the back foot Gareth Andrew struck to remove Johan Botha (17) before Saeed Ajmal trapped Andrew Hall (0) LBW in the 18th over.
The Pakistan international, bowling the final over over the innings, struck three more times, removing Ron Newton (22), Stephen Peters (0) and David Lucas (0) to leave the Royals facing a run chase of 130.
