The Hampshire Royals all but sealed their place in the Friends Life t20 quarters finals after an empathic seven wicket victory over the Middlesex Panthers at the Uxbridge Cricket Club.
Faced with a run chase of just 122, Jimmy Adams (38) and James Vince (39) led the Royals to victory with over three overs to spare to leave Panthers rooted to the bottom of the Southern group with just four points from their 11 games.
Steven Crook (17-2) picked up two early wickets but with such a small victory target the Panthers were unable to stop the inform Royals cruising to victory.
Having been put into bat, the Panthers got off to a good start, reaching 61-1 at the end of the 7th before the defending champions stepped up a gear to take control of the game to restrict the Panthers to a total of just 121-9.
Shahid Afridi (16-3) and Dimitri Mascarenhas (28-2) led the way as they ripped through the Panthers middle order to leave the home side 74-6 at the end of the 12th over.
Sam Robson (28) offered some resistant’s but with a victory target of just 122 the Royals cruised to their 9th victory in this years tournament to strengthen the place at the top of the Southern group with just four games remaining.
