Yorkshire Carnegie kept their hopes of reaching the Friends Life t20 quarter finals alive thanks to a 12 run victory over the Northamptonshire Steelbacks at the County Ground.
Having set the home side a victory target of 145, Yorkshire cruised to victory thanks to Ryan Sidebottom (18-2) and Rich Pyrah (32-2) who restricted the Steelbacks to a total of 132-7.
Joe Sayers (44) and Adam Lyth (30) got the visitors off to a good start before Steelbacks skipper Andrew Hall (23-4) picked up four wickets as Yorkshire slumped to a total of just 144 despite reaching 87-1 in the 11th over.
Hall removed Lyth, Jonny Bairstow (5), Gary Balance (10) and Pyrah (0) in quick succession as the visitors middle collapsed in spectacular fashion to leave the Steelbacks facing a victory target of 145 to kick start their faltering campaign.
Despite gaining the momentum thanks to Hall’s performance with the ball, the Steelbacks top order failed to fire once again as they slipped to their 7th defeat to all but end their hopes of reaching the quarter finals.
Having lost three early wickets, Alex Wakely (38) and Ron Newton (37) tried to lead a fight back with a 4th wicket stand of 49 but once Wakely was dismissed by Pyrah in the 13th over the Steelbacks faint hopes were all but extinguished.
