Steve Davies and Rory Hamilton-Brown helped the Surrey Lions record a vital 18 run victory over the Sussex Sharks in a high scoring contest at the Whitgift School in Croydon.

Despite missing out on a maiden t20 century, Davies put the Lions in the driving seat after he smashed 15 boundaries and 2 sixes to end the innings 99 not out to help the hosts record an impressive total of 203-2.

Luke Wright gave the Lions a scare after he smashed 72 runs from just 31 deliveries which included eight boundaries and five sixes during an opening stand of 109 with Ben Brown.

The loss of Wright in the 10th over changed the course of the game as the Lions fought their way back into the game removing Matt Prior (4), Lou Vincent (14) and Brown (68) in quick succession to restrict the Sharks to a total of 185-5.

Lions skipper Rory Hamilton-Brown backed Davies up, scoring his own half century from just 35 deliveries before Chris Nash struck at the end of the 14th over to halt the Lions charge.

Jason Roy (18) got the innings off to the perfect start after he smashed two sixes in the opening over which was bowled by Ollie Rayner to get the Lions innings off to the perfect start.

The victory keeps the Lions in 6th place, just one point behind the second place Somerset Sabres as the race for a place in the Friends Life t20 quarter finals heats up in the Southern Group.
