Essex Eagles skipper James Foster has been handed a two game ban by the ECB after the Eagles were found guilty of five fixed penalty offences in the last twelve months.
The ban will rule Foster out of the Eagles Friends Life t20 matches against the Hampshire Royals tomorrow night at the Rose Bowl and their home game against the Glamorgan Dragons on Friday night at the County Ground in Chelmsford.
As well as the ban, the Eagles have been handed a fine of £5,000 for failing to implement a management policy which would act as a safeguard against future incidents.
The ECB released a statement saying the regulations make it absolutely clear that the Captain is responsible for discipline on the field and ensuring no repetition occurs.
"We have taken into account the penalty imposed by Essex on the Captain for his misconduct but in our view the Captain’s responsibilities are great and we conclude that taking all the mitigation into account that the correct penalty for the Captain is an immediate 2-match suspension from matches in Essex’s First Xl programme."
The ruling comes after the Cricket Discipline Commission Panel comprising of David Gabbitass, Alan Wadey and Mike Griffith convened to hear charges brought by the ECB against Essex County Cricket Club and James Foster.
The changes are in relation to five or more separate occasions when cricketers registered by the County were found guilty of fixed penalty offences during the last twelve months under the captaincy of Foster.
