A half century from Matt Prior was enough to help the Sussex Sharks seal a vital 15 run victory over the Kent Spitfires in a must win game for both teams at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.
Prior, the England test wicket keeper smashed nine boundaries and two sixes during his innings of 89 which helped the Sharks record a competitive total of 159-6.
Ben Brown (20) and Ed Joyce (15) offered support for a weakened Sharks line up which was missing the influential Luke Wright and Murray Goodwin who were absence through injury and suspension.
With both teams needing to win in order to keep the pressure on the teams at the top of the Southern group it was the Spitfires who came up just short despite an impressive innings from Darren Stevens (65).
With wickets failing around him, Stevens almost signal handily steered the hosts to victory but only Azhar Mahmood (18) offering support the Sharks were able to hold on to record a much needed victory.
