The Lancashire Lightning strengthened their chances of reaching the Friends Life t20 quarter finals thanks to a crushing nine wicket victory over the Nottinghamshire Outlaws at a rather wet Old Trafford.
Steve Croft (53) and Tom Smith (45) steered the Lightning to victory in a rain effect 15 over a side game after the start was delayed for more the 90 minutes after Old Trafford was hit by heavy rain.
Despite the loss of Stephen Moore (4) in the 2nd over, Croft and Smith shared a second wicket stand of 97 to help the Lightning seal a comprehensive victory with nine balls to spare.
The Northern group leaders suffered a day to forget after they recorded a total of just 105-5 from their 15 overs thanks to some economical bowling from Gary Keedy (2-14) and Stephen Parry (1-16).
Adam Voges (29) and Alex Hales (24) led the way, but the Outlaws, all ready guaranteed a home quarter final suffered a rare failure as they slipped to just their second defeat in their years tournament.
