Group stages set for dramatic conclusion

After six weeks of action the Friends Life t20 group stages are set for a dramatic conclusion with three quarter final places still up for grabs in the final round of games tonight.

While the race for the quarter finals in the Northern group is pretty straight forward the focus will be on the Southern group with four teams still fighting it out for the two remaining quarter final spaces.

The drama will be increased even further by the fact that the 3rd place Sussex Sharks face the 5th place Surrey Lions at Hove, while the 4th place Kent Spitfires travel to Chelmsford to take on the 6th place Essex Eagles.

Victories for the Sharks, Spitfires or Lions will guarantee them a place in the quarter finals while the Eagles will need to beat the Spitfires and hope the Sharks see off the Lions in order for them to sneak into 4th place because of a superior run rate.

The situation in the Northern group is a lot clearer with the Worcestershire Royals travelling to the table topping Nottinghamshire Outlaws knowing only a victory will be good enough if they are to leap frog the Durham Dynamos into 4th place.

The Dynamos 97 run victory against the Northamptonshire Steelbacks last night was enough to take control of 4th place; with no game tonight the Dynamos focus will be on Trent Bridge where they’ll be hoping the Outlaws cruise to victory.
