Bears cruise to win; Hildreth scores a century

The Warwickshire Bears strengthen their chances of sealing a place in the Friends Life t20 Quarter Finals thanks to a eight wicket victory over the Worcestershire Royals at New Road in Worcester.

Having restricted the Royals to a total of just 120-7, the Bears cruised to victory thanks in part to Varun Chopra (49) and Darren Maddy (39) who sealed victory with 21 balls to spare.

The result leaves the Bears two points behind the Somerset Sabres who beat the Welsh Dragons by four wickets thanks to James Hildreth who scored a wonderful century to seal the victory.

Hildreth smashed 15 boundaries and just one six to help the home side chase down the Dragons total of 178-5 with one ball to spare in a high scoring clash at the County Ground in Taunton.

Other action from the Midlands Group saw the Gloucestershire Gladiators see off the Northants Steelbacks by eight runs thanks to an impressive bowling display from Ian Saxelby (4-16) who picked up four wickets.

Elsewhere on a busy night of action, the defending champions finally won at the 5th time of asking thanks to a eight run victory over the Derbyshire Falcons in a rain effected 8 overs a side clash at Grace Road.

In the Northern Group Yorkshire Carnegie moved into a tie with the Nottinghamshire Outlaws at the top of the table thanks to a 12 run victory over the Durham Dynamos.

The Outlaws were let kicking their heels after their game against the Lancashire Lightning was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Old Trafford.

The Leicestershire Foxes successfully defended their total of 80-3 despite a quick fire 17 from Jonathan Clare during the final two overs as the game ended with a bit of unexpected tension.

On a busy night of action there was also a full round of matches in the Southern Group with the Kent Spitfires sealing a three run victory over the Hampshire Royals, the Essex Eagles beating the Surrey Lions by three wickets and the Sussex Sharks beating the Middlesex Panthers by 21 runs.
