The Hampshire Royals strengthened their hopes of securing a place in the Friends Life t20 quarter finals thanks to a 19 run Duckworth Lewis victory over the Surrey Lions at the Kia Oval in London.
The match was delayed by more then 90 minutes because of heavy rain before play got under way at 20.30 with the Lions batting first in a 10 over a side match.
The Royals romped to victory thanks to James Vince (24) and Jimmy Adams (28) who shared an opening stand of 63 before the rain returned and the match was ended prematurely with the visitors in a winning position.
The home side lost Kevin Pietersen (0) from the very first delivery of the match after he was dismissed by Liam Dawson (2-10) and although Zafar Ansari (35) and Steven Davis (30) lead the fight back a score of 84-4 was never going to be enough.
The nights other match between the Gloucestershire Gladiators and the Welsh Dragons was abandoned without a ball being bowled at the County Ground in Bristol.
