The Hampshire Royals sealed their place in the Friends Life t20 Final later tonight against Yorkshire Carnegie thanks to a six wicket victory against the Somerset Sabres at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff.
The Royals cruised to victory with six balls to spare thanks to a fifth wicket stand of 52 between Sean Ervine (34) and Simon Katich (32) after the Royals had slumped to just 72-4 in their attempts to chase down the Sabres victory target of 126.
It proved to be an easy victory for the Royals after Dimitri Mascarenhas (2-11) and Irvine (2-22) lead the way with the ball to help the Royals seal their place in the t20 Champions League in October.
Having been put into bat the Sabres were restricted to a total of just 125-6 despite a fine individual performance by Craig Kieswetter (63) who at least gave the Sabres bowlers a target they might be able to defend.
