Durham go into their Twenty20 Cup campaign at Headingley tonight with one over-riding priority: to enjoy it.
The shortest and newest form of the county game has been a huge hit with spectators and Durham wicketkeeper Phil Mustard says the players are just as enthusiastic.
With its short evening games, coloured clothing, music and plenty of alternative entertainment beyond the boundary, Twenty20 has packed out grounds since its inception in 2003 and Mustard has been won over.
"It's a competition you just go out and enjoy every minute of," he said. "The Twenty20's all about having fun and that's what we'll try to do.
"It's totally different and all the guys love it. We just go out to enjoy it and try to entertain the crowds.
"You get a lot of younger kids coming along. They can go down and still be in bed by eight. If they're not really interested in the cricket they can go and play on the bouncy castle while their parents watch the game."
Durham have always performed badly in the competition, leading to accusations that they do not take it seriously enough.
But their one-day form this summer - only Lancashire and Derbyshire have beaten them - has raised hopes.
"I think we've just got the tactics wrong in previous seasons," said Mustard. "This year we've had a different plan for the C&G and it's worked well.
"Our one-day stuff has been fantastic this year. The way we've made partnerships I don't think we could have done any better.
"It's a good competition for trying new things out. We'll have a decent squad out but it's a younger man's game.
"For someone like Jon Lewis it might be a little harder to adapt but my game's very open anyway so I don't find it too difficult."
Durham open with back-to-back away games against Yorkshire tonight and Nottinghamshire tomorrow. The Riversiders have picked their strongest possible squad with the exception of off-spinner Graeme Bridge coming in for opener Lewis.
Gordon Muchall, left out of recent one-day games is set to open with Mustard at three.
And the Sunderland-born player thinks the first game could be the toughest, despite their hosts' miserable recent form.
"Yorkshire could be a real threat this year," he said. "Darren Lehmann could be a danger man because he doesn't like to run much but he's capable of some big hitting."
This year Durham play four home games - against Lancashire Lightning (Friday, 6pm), Yorkshire Phoenix (Monday, July 3, 6pm), Derbyshire Phantoms (Saturday July 8, 2.40pm) and Leicestershire Foxes (Tuesday, July 11, 5.30pm).
Season tickets for all four are available at £30 for adults and £16 for juniors.
Individual match tickets are also available at £12 in advance (£15 on the day), or £4/£5 juniors.
Durham squad from: Maher, Muchall, Mustard (wk), Benkenstein (c), Scott, Pratt, Breese, Gibson, Thorp, Bridge, Killeen, Onions, M Lewis.
