Last year's beaten finalists Lancashire began their 2006 campaign with a shock defeat by Derbyshire, whose five-wicket victory was set up by their bowlers.
A disciplined performance led by Graham Wagg (3-24) tied up Lancs and they were shot out for a paltry total of 114.
Steve Stubbings dropped anchor for the hosts with a well constructed 51.
Chris Taylor weighed in with 25 and even though they lost three late wickets, Derbyshire reached their target with three balls left.
