Andy Bichel inspired Essex to an easy 87-run Twenty20 Cup win over Sussex.
The Australian seamer took 4-23 and Darren Gough two wickets as the visitors collapsed to 39-6 chasing Essex's 196-6 at Chelmsford.
Luke Wright hammered a quickfire 20 and Yasir Arafat blasted 34 but there was little else as Sussex were polished off for a paltry 109 in the 14th over.
Ryan ten Doeschate (49) and James Middlebrook (43) put on 93 to boost Essex's total after they fell to 90-5.
That came after Mark Pettini hit 46 off 25 balls and put on 67 with skipper Ronnie Irani to give them a decent start but Wright and Mushtaq Ahmed put the brakes on with two wickets each.
Bichel and Gough bowled full and straight early on to leave the visiting side in a parlous position from which they never recovered.
