Essex made it two Twenty20 wins out of two under the floodlights at Chelmsford, easily beating Hampshire.
A packed house cheered as Ronnie Irani stroked 81 not out off just 48 balls after Hampshire had managed just 158-7 on a wonderful batting wicket.
The victory had been set up by superb yorker-length bowling from Darren Gough, Andy Bichel and Graham Napier.
Napier took two wickets in his first over, and finished with excellent figures of 3-19 in his four overs.
Essex's run chase began well as they started with a 44-run stand between Irani and Mark Pettini.
Even Gough found batting easy, hitting a cameo 14 at number three.
Irani collected most of his runs with some effortless driving, collecting nine fours and four sixes in all.
