Teenager David Balcombe is expected to be handed his Hampshire debut in the county's final Twenty20 game of the season tonight.
The all rounder will replace Chris Tremlett, who is being rested ahead of Hampshire's next championship game, which starts against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on Friday.
The Hampshire Hawks were knocked out of the Twenty20 Cup despite beating Sussex on Friday night, as they cannot catch Kent, Essex or Surrey, and only the three top teams can qualify for the quarter-finals.
It means that tonight's match against Middlesex at Southgate (5.30pm) is a dead rubber, so Hampshire have taken the opportunity to hand a debut to 21-year-old Balcombe.
The all rounder is rated highly by Hampshire, he has represented British Universities and has already taken five wickets in a first-class innings, for Durham UCCE against Durham last year.
