The formbook was ripped up at Taunton as unbeaten Worcestershire were brought down to earth by winless Somerset, Aaron Laraman starring.
The former Middlesex seamer took a stunning 4-15 as the Royals, chasing 179 to win, finished 34 runs short.
Earlier, James Hildreth needed just 32 balls to hit 51 for the Sabres while Keith Dutch hit 47 off 31 balls.
Laraman struck at the top of the order, leaving David Leatherdale and Andy Bichel with too much to do.
