Warwickshire v Somerset

Warwickshire Bears comfortably beat Somerset Sabres by 47 runs at Edgbaston to register the first of the two wins they had targeted to have a chance of sneaking into the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals.
An unbeaten 35 from 13 balls by long-serving Trevor Penney enabled the home side to reach 172 for eight and Somerset collapsed for 125 in 17.3 overs when former Cumberland paceman James Anyon took a hat-trick for the first time.
The 22-year-old, who played for Loughborough UCCE for two seasons, had Wesley Durston caught at short fine leg for 18 and Gareth Andrew taken behind the wicket before winning an lbw decision against last man Andrew Caddick.
Graeme Smith's decision to field first saddled the Sabres with the task of batting in the worst of the light and the South African captain's early departure for 16, driving at a wide ball from Neil Carter, set a pattern for an unconvincing reply.
Warwickshire's spinners introduced a different factor as Jim Troughton bowled Keith Parsons for 25 and Alex Loudon claimed two top-order wickets, including that of James Hildreth with a stunning right-handed catch by Troughton at mid-wicket.
Warwickshire's innings had wobbled when five wickets fell in 13 balls from the time Andrew bowled Ian Bell for 41 from 35 balls - easily the best of the England batsman's 16 innings in the competition.
Durston then took three wickets in his first over in the Twenty20 Cup this season. Dewald Pretorius smacked the off spinner's first ball to mid-on, then Ian Blackwell held an overhead catch from a reverse sweep by Jonathan Trott (28), and finally Heath Streak holed out to long on from the last ball.
Andrew (three for 28) pitched the ball up to trap Alex Loudon lbw with the first delivery of the next over, but from 131 for eight Warwickshire found an unexpected lifeline in Penney's first innings after a two-week lay-off with a hamstring strain.
Essentially recalled as stand-in wicketkeeper, the 37-year-old county loyalist wrecked Durston's figures with three successive sixes, one of which Matthew Wood spilled over the rope at mid-wicket, in a second over costing 21 runs.
A rueful Durston bowed out of the attack with three for 25 from 12 balls and Warwickshire signed off in steady drizzle by adding 14 more from Simon Francis' final over.
