Durham v Leicestershire

Holders Leicestershire completed the double over Durham and made it four wins from six in this season's Twenty20 Cup with a 32-run victory at Chester-le-Street last night.

After choosing to bat, Leicestershire's 154 for seven did not look too daunting, but Durham were unable to break the stranglehold imposed by accurate bowling and sharp fielding.

Nicky Peng, batting with a runner after colliding with Nathan Astle in the field, made 39 and skipper Dale Benkenstein managed 33 not out, but Durham could only muster 122 for seven.

Man of the match was left-hander John Sadler, who thrashed the highest Twenty20 score yet made against Durham, hitting 73 off 48 balls with three sixes and five fours.

He had an escape on 40 when a high catch coming out of the sun was put down by Gordon Muchall at deep mid-wicket, but went on to share a second wicket stand of 72 in nine overs with skipper HD Ackerman.

Peng's injury came at the fall of the first wicket. Darren Maddy drove lustily and skied the ball over extra cover, where Peng turned and went for the catch with Astle tearing in from mid-off.

After the inevitable collision both remained on the ground, clearly hurt, but there was no sign of the ball until it transpired that Astle had clung on to the catch.

Leicestershire were 60 for one at the halfway stage then pressed the throttle when Benkenstein came on for the 11th over, although he was unlucky not to claim Sadler's wicket while being hit for 13 runs.

Muchall caught the left-hander running round the mid-wicket boundary, but realising he could not stop himself crossing the rope he flipped the ball back, conceding two runs instead of six.

Benkenstein had Ackerman well caught low down at mid-wicket by Neil Killeen for 39, but Sadler continued to blaze away, finally falling to the first ball of the last over.

He was caught at long-on off Gary Scott's off-spin, but there was still time for Ottis Gibson to blast two sixes before being run out off the last ball.
