| Gloucestershire v Somerset
Gloucestershire's hopes of a Twenty20 Cup win over arch-rivals Somerset at Bristol were thwarted by the bad weather.
The Sabres had struggled to 61 for seven off 13 overs, having won the toss, when persistent rain set in and eventually forced umpires John Hampshire and Neil Mallender to abandon the game and both sides took one point each.
Somerset had been in trouble from the first ball of the match which saw skipper Graeme Smith pinned lbw by Carl Greenidge.
It was two for two when Keith Parsons was bowled by Steve Kirby for a duck.
Greenidge (2-9), Kirby (2-16) and Mark Hardinges (3-18) maintained a stranglehold with some extravagant seam movement.
Greenidge also swung the ball from the Jessop Tavern End and the early Somerset batsmen struggled to lay bat on ball in the gloomy conditions.
Carl Gazzard was bowled by Greenidge for 10 and it was 32 for four when Matthew Wood fell lbw to Kirby.
Then Hardinges exploited the helpful pitch, removing Wes Durston for two and James Hildreth for a first ball duck.
Wicketkeeper Steve Adshead was instrumental in both dismissals, brilliantly catching Durston above his head off a short ball while standing up to the stumps and stumping Hildreth as he lifted his back foot.
Ian Blackwell was the one Somerset batsman to come to terms with the pitch and looked relatively untroubled in making 15 not out.
Arul Suppiah also fell to Hardinges, but at 44 for seven Gareth Andrew helped Blackwell stop the rot with an unbroken stand of 17.
Even so, Gloucestershire were hot favourites when the rain came after some injudicious strokes as well as some good bowling.
The result left Somerset a point ahead of their rivals in the South/West/Wales Group, but both can still cherish high hopes of qualifying for the quarter-final.
Somerset coach Mark Garaway admitted: "Although the ball did seam around we didn't bat well.
"When early wickets fall you have to adapt and we didn't do that. But we are a young side and lessons will be learned."
