Derbyshire v Yorkshire

Yorkshire are still in the frame for the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals but Derbyshire's interest in the tournament was ended by rain which washed out the floodlit match at Derby.

The Phoenix made 210 for three from their 20 overs with Gerard Brophy smashing a half-century from only 14 balls but a revised target under the Duckworth Lewis method tilted the game in Derbyshire's favour.

They needed a further 52 from 41 balls but the umpires had no option but to abandon the game after another downpour left both teams with a point apiece.

That leaves Yorkshire with a chance of qualifying for the last eight as one of the best third-placed teams but Derbyshire are now out of the running with one group match left.

Yorkshire lost opener Michael Lumb for a duck before Brophy was promoted up the order to devastating affect as he hammered some short and wide deliveries from the Derbyshire pace bowlers.

Fifty-four came from the first three overs as Brophy raced to his first half-century for the county in just 12 minutes before he was lbw trying to sweep a yorker from Steffan Jones.

Craig White and Anthony McGrath kept the visitors on course for a demanding total, although the Derbyshire spinners exerted a measure of control.

White swept Ant Botha for six and also hit eight fours in his 33-ball 54 and it took a sharp return catch by Marcus North to remove him.

Anthony McGrath drove North high over long off for six and Yorkshire plundered 32 runs from the final two overs with McGrath driving Jones for another six.

His unbeaten 57 came from 44 balls and with Darren Lehmann scoring an unbeaten 35, Yorkshire's total was the highest scored against Derbyshire in the competition.

To have any chance of overhauling it, the home side needed something special and wicketkeeper Jamie Pipe supplied it with a spectacular assault on seamer Mitch Claydon.

He took three sixes and a four from the first four balls of the Phantoms' innings and was unbeaten on 29 from only nine balls when the rain came.

The calculations came down in Derbyshire's favour but they did not get the chance to chase down the revised target as the rain increased to leave them frustrated.
