Nottinghamshire v Derbyshire

Stephen Fleming blazed his way to an unbeaten 64 as Nottinghamshire Outlaws clinched a place in the Twenty20 Cup quarter-finals by thrashing Derbyshire by nine wickets at Trent Bridge.

The Kiwi skipper thumped six fours and three sixes in his 47-ball innings, bringing up the victory with 25 balls to spare with a maximum off his opposite number Graeme Welch.

Fleming was helped by Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel, who struck 53 not out off 38 balls with three sixes and five fours.

Phantoms' Australian Michael Di Venuto offered the only real resistance with eight boundaries in his innings of 53 off 41 balls.

But Derbyshire's total of 141 for six never looked like enough once Graeme Swann hit three fours off the first over from Graham Wagg.

Fleming joined in the fun with two fiercely-struck fours off Ian Hunter as the Outlaws got off to a flying start.

And although Swann returned to the pavilion for 20 after driving to mid-on, Patel was quick to put the visiting bowlers to the sword.

Ian Hunter fared worst, conceding 33 in his three overs, but none of the Derbyshire bowlers escaped punishment.

Earlier, Di Venuto got the match underway with a driven four through the covers and was not disturbed by the early loss of Steve Stubbings, who mistimed a drive to cover.

The Tasmanian then hit AJ Harris for four consecutive boundaries and also lofted Swann over mid-on for four.

Nottinghamshire had most success when they took the pace off the ball, as Gareth Clough removed pinch-hitter Wagg and Swann gained revenge on Di Venuto thanks to a fine diving catch from David Hussey at long-off.

Jamie Pipe sliced Clough over point for six but then holed out to deep midwicket and Marcus North was the third wicket to fall in three overs as he drove straight to Hussey off Swann.

Last to go was Hassan Adnan, who improvised nicely for four boundaries in his 23 before he was caught at deep cover off the last ball of the Derbyshire innings.
