Warwickshire v Glamorgan

New Zealander James Franklin raced to a half-century from only 18 balls as Glamorgan secured their second Twenty20 Cup win of the season by six wickets against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
After a blistering 63 from 26 balls by fellow Kiwi Brendon McCullum against Worcestershire at Tuesday, Franklin stepped into the matchwinning role with an unbeaten 69 from 27 deliveries in an unbroken stand of 106 from 8.5 overs with David Hemp.
The two left handers shredded an injury-weakened attack in a systematic assault.
Franklin hit seven fours and four sixes and Hemp added an undefeated 60 from 42 balls to a previous Twenty20 Cup half-century against Warwickshire in a 2004 quarter-final.
Yet Glamorgan could hardly have made a worse start. With only 15 runs on the board by the fourth over, James Anyon and Neil Carter had whipped out the top three in the order.
The situation would have been critical if Michael Powell, at wide mid-on, had taken a head-high chance from Hemp on five, but the game slipped away from Warwickshire as Hemp and Nicky Peng added 53 in five overs.
When Peng (22) was bowled by a well-concealed slower delivery by Heath Streak, Hemp found an even more violent partner as Franklin thrashed successive sixes off Ian Westwood. The rookie off spinner's only over cost 20 runs.
Warwickshire's total was probably a fraction below par. Apart from Jonathan Trot's 28 in a third-wicket partnership of 47, none of the front-line strikers matched Wagh's smooth progress to his first half-century in the competition from 37 balls.
A peripheral member of the one-day team, the former Oxford University captain owed this opportunity to an injury to Nick Knight.
Having made 23 in an opening victory at Northampton on Tuesday, he comfortably improved on that innings with plenty of authentic strokes among his nine fours.
Wagh was sixth out at 116, driving over a low full toss from Richard Grant, who took two wickets and held two catches, but Streak made the most of the closing overs.
Following his unbeaten 33 against Northamptonshire, the former Zimbabwe captain smashed consecutive sixes off Dean Cosker before he was caught at deep point off Andrew Davies for a rollicking 40 from 21 balls.
Alex Wharf finished with four for 42 but the last over touched the extremities of an erratic performance.
After dismissing Tony Frost and Dougie Brown in successive balls, he conceded boundaries to Westwood from his last two deliveries.
