Kent v Hampshire

Tyrone Henderson steered Kent to an unlikely victory by 15 runs over Hampshire in the Twenty20 Cup at Beckenham .

The South African, who only joined the county last week, came to the crease with the hosts struggling on 37 for six with Dominic Thornley taking four wickets but his 63 saw Kent set the Hawks a target of 135.

The visitors were in trouble early in their innings and by the fifth over had lost four wickets.

Mitchell Stokes (five) drop-edged his pull, skying the ball behind the stumps off Andrew Hall and Thornley (one) was caught at deep extra cover off Amjad Khan.

The next two overs saw Michael Carberry (two) held at slip off Henderson while Hall, switching ends, had Chris Benham caught behind for one.

A direct hit from Matthew Walker at wide mid-wicket ran out Greg Lamb who had hit two boundaries and a six in his score of 26 as he raised the Hawks' hopes with a 45-run stand with Nic Pothas who was next out, top scoring with 30 from 31 balls and the visitors were 98 for seven.

On 107, Amjad took two wickets with successful balls. He had Shaun Udal caught at long-on and then took a lobbed return catch from Dimitri Mascarenhas before Hall wrapped up the innings as he removed Tim Tremlett's leg stump for his third wicket for 21 and Amjad was most impressive with three for 11.

Earlier, the Spitfires' batting was most unimpressive to begin with as the top and middle order batsmen struggled for runs.

Only Darren Stevens played his shots with some aggression. He hit Tremlett for six in the second over and followed that with a boundary in the next over off Billy Taylor who then, in the same over, dismissed Neil Dexter (one) with Lamb running back from slip to hold a skied catch.

The next over brought the Hawks another wicket with Hall top-edging his pull off Tremlett, without scoring and Kent were 23 for two.

Stevens (24) played his pull shot too early, mistiming it to be caught at mid-off for 24 - from 20 balls - off Taylor and Mascarenhas, having replaced Tremlett as the first bowling change, bowled James Tredwell (two) with the batsman swinging wildly to leg.

Kent were 32 for four and on the same total Martin van Jaarsveld (three) departed when he went down the wicket to drive to mid-on and was caught by Udal.

After the next wicket had fallen with Matthew Walker out for nought, Kent were finally able to put a good partnership together with Henderson and Rob Key putting on 62.

Henderson once again displayed clean hitting as he had done in the previous match on this ground last week.

He hit Thornley for six and four off consecutive balls and then hit Udal for four before sending the next ball for six to long-on.

Udal conceded 16 off the 14th over, 15 of which were hit by Henderson. His 50 came from just 33 balls including three sixes and three fours.

He was finally dismissed for 63 having faced 44 balls in the last over after taking Kent to 132 for nine while Thornley finished with fine figures of four for 22.
