Leicestershire v Derbyshire

Leicestershire Foxes boosted their hopes of a Twenty20 Cup quarter-final place by completing the double over Derbyshire Phantoms at Grace Road.

With HD Ackerman hitting a 41-ball half-century, the Foxes posted a total of 161 for six and then restricted Derbyshire to 143 for six to win by 18 runs, despite 57 from Steve Stubbings.

The Phantoms, who lost to the Foxes by 86 runs last week, looked to have a good chance of a revenge victory with five overs to go when they needed 49 runs with five wickets remaining.

But some tight and accurate bowling from Jeremy Snape, James Allenby and Adam Griffith kept the lid on the Derbyshire innings and despite the best efforts of Stubbings they were unable to secure the runs needed.

Their last hope went when Stubbings was out for 57 from 49 balls, with six fours.

Going for another big hit, he holed out to Darren Maddy at long-on off the bowling of Allenby who finished with one for 12 from his two overs.

Snape bowled impressively, conceding just 19 runs in his four overs and claiming the wicket of Marcus North who was trapped lbw with a quicker ball.

Apart from Stubbings, only Graham Wagg and Chris Taylor offered much resistance against the home attack, both men making 24.

It looked as though Wagg could prove a thorn in Leicestershire's side as he hit four fours and a six and took 13 runs off five balls from David Masters.

But with the final delivery, the seamer had his revenge by bowling Wagg with an inswinging delivery.

The home side made steady rather than spectacular progress after winning the toss with Ackerman laying the foundations for the innings with an excellent 53.

He hit five fours and a six before falling lbw to a full toss from Steffan Jones.

Paul Harrison, on his first-team debut for the Foxes, blasted an impressive 18 off just 10 balls with two fours and a six but was then caught on the boundary edge by Stubbings as he attempted another six off the bowling of Ant Botha.

Paul Nixon made an unbeaten 25 off 18 balls and Snape hit two fours and a six in his quickfire 21 to give the Foxes a total which proved enough to earn them a third win in five games in the competition.
