Shane Warne believes his inexperienced Rajasthan Royals team can prove a lot of people wrong after their Indian Premier League win over Kings XI Punjab on Monday.
Warne’s team secured a six wickets victory following impressive bowling figures from the Australian of 3-19 and an unbeaten knock of 76 from compatriot Shane Watson.
Victory for The Royals goes a long way to erasing the disappointment of a first game defeat to Delhi Daredevils.
“We were pretty disappointed with how we played in Delhi, but we’ve got a young squad and we set up well,” Warne said on Setanta Sports 1.
“Shane Watson was a star, we’ve got some experience in the middle, but we’ve got a lot of young players as well.
“There was a lot of planning in the last week leading up to the first game, with tactics and giving everyone a role and we’ve worked really hard for a week to try and gel everyone together.
“This means a lot for us. Not many people give us much of a chance, but, as I said after the first game, don’t write us off because we’ll bounce back pretty well and I was very happy with the way we played tonight [Monday].”
Yuvraj Singh believes his Kings side set a reasonable batting total but failed to follow it up with a good bowling performance.
“We had a good start but lost too many wickets up front and there wasn’t enough on the board,” said Yuvraj.
“165 was a competitive total, but Shane Watson batted outstandingly. We didn’t bowl well enough, we’ll have to look at both batting and bowling for the next game.”
