Brett Lee was in upbeat mood after his starring performance in Kings XI Punjab’s first Indian Premier League victory on Friday.
Punjab overcame Mumbai Indians thanks in large to Kumar Sangakkara’s 94, but Lee was equally pivotal in the 66-run win.
The gritty Australian produced a typically determined four-over spell in which he took the wicket of Sanath Jayasuriya and conceded just nine runs.
Consecutive defeats to Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals had left Lee and his team-mates languishing in the IPL table, and he is pleased to have seen them bounce back in style.
“I’m really proud of the guys,” he said on Setanta Sports. “We needed to re-gather after two losses. I thought we played pretty well the first two games, but we really needed to step up.
“We had so much energy out there in the field, we’ve worked pretty hard so it’s always nice to get that first win.”
