Steady batting by Graeme Smith steered the Rajasthan Royals to a seven-wicket win over the Bangalore Royal Challengers in an IPL match in Bangalore on Saturday.
Some of the most disciplined bowling in the tournament so far saw Bangalore restricted to a total of 135 for eight. Rajasthan replied with 138 for three in 17.1 overs.
Shane Watson and Munaf Patel claimed two wickets each, and all of the visitors' bowlers except Yusuf Pathan - who went for 10 runs in his single over - conceded less than eight an over.
Bangalore failed to overcome the consistent pressure, and their innings shambled along in fits and starts.
Watson dismissed openers Shivnarine Chanderpaul (2) and Rahul Dravid (0), both caught at third man, in his first two overs.
Ross Taylor clattered 44 runs off 20 balls to keep the Royal Challengers rolling along, but their only other noteworthy score was Praveen Kumar's 34.
Jacques Kallis (11) helped Taylor add 43 runs for the third wicket, and Kumar and Zaheer Khan (17 not out) put on 41 for the eighth.
Smith (49) saw Mahesh Rawat (0) and Yusuf Pathan (21) come and go before Watson joined him to share 104 runs for the third wicket.
Watson finished with an unbeaten 61, which he scored off 41 balls with eight fours and two sixes.
