Karnataka off-spinner Ryan Ninan has been drafted into the Mumbai Indians squad in place of the suspended Harbhajan Singh.
Indians' manager Rahul Sanghvi contacted the 23-year-old on Thursday and asked him to to report to the team immediately.
"I have been asked to come on Friday and I will play a practice game," Ninan told Asian Age. If I impress the team management then I might get to sign the contract soon."
The doors to the Indian Premier League opened for the young bowler after Harbhajan was banned for the remainder of the tournament for slapping Kings XI Punjab bowler Sreesanth.
Ninan will become the fourth Karnataka player and the first bowler to join the Mumbai Indians after Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey and Gaurav Dhiman.
The Indians, who have lost four of their five IPL matches, will next face Delhi Daredevils in Mumbai on Sunday.
