Shoaib Akhtar is free to play in the Indian Premier League after the Pakistan Cricket Board opted to suspend for a month the five-year ban recently imposed on him.
The PCB handed the controversial fast bowler the ban following several breaches of discipline and for breaking the conditions of a two-year probation.

‘The Rawalpindi Express’ signed to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders in this year’s inaugural IPL, but is yet to turn out for the franchise.

The Knight Riders have struggled in the Pakistani’s absence, winning just two of their opening six games, but will now be boosted by the injection of some pace to their bowling attack.

"The PCB has always shown a flexible view to Shoaib Akhtar,” said PCB spokesman Amir Bilal.

"We said it at the outset that we have nothing personal against him. Whatever happened has been done as per rules and regulations.

"It is because of the chairman of PCB that he was not given a life ban and just given five years. So it was the tribunal itself which opted to give him a one month suspension so he can play in the IPL.

"If the IPL gives him permission to play we have no problem."
