The Mumbai Indians batting failed to fire in unison yet again as they were restricted to a total of 162 at the loss of eight wickets on a flat batting pitch of DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai against Delhi Daredevils.
The target of 162 is defendable but not unachievable, considering the form of Delhi batsmen. Mumbai bowlers would have to do some extraordinary work to record their second win of the DLF Indian Premier League tournament.
It was looking like a good start for the Mumbai Indians. They appeared to be all geared up for taking on Delhi Daredevils on the home turf.
The crowd at Navi Mumbai’s D Y Patil stadium got opportunities to cheer as the opening pair, Sanath Jayasuriya and V Takawale hit Delhi’s bowlers for a six and a few boundaries. Mumbai’s batting line-up exuded confidence.
The first five overs went smooth but two quick jolts accompanied the sixth over, and the home crowd witnessed the fall of two wickets at a difference of a single ball. The dangerous bowler was Yo Mahesh. First it was Takawale who was caught by Sangwan off Mahesh’s delivery in 5.4 overs.
Next batsamn who comes for Jayasuriya’s company is Dominic Thornley. Jaysauriya tries to regain from the loss and hits his next shot to an undisturbed boundary. But, Mahesh strikes again and the former Sri Lankan skipper succumbs to the fatal delivery as the ball uproots the off-stumps at 5.6 overs.
