Thundershowers threaten to play spoilsport

Even as the city prepares for a showdown between Kolkata Knight Riders and Bangalore Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League here this evening, rain and thundershowers could play spoilsport to the extravaganza.
The regional met department forecast rain and thundershowers in the evening and night in the metropolis and also other parts of West Bengal.

"There is distinct possibility of rain and thundershowers as thunderclouds are forming because of conducive atmospheric conditions," regional met office director G C Debnath told PTI.

Though generally welcomed as a respite from the searing heat at this time of the year, rains could jeopardise the Twenty20 IPL league match at the Eden Gardens here, where a sell-out crowd is expected to throng the stadium.

The match is scheduled to begin from 8:00 pm, which will be preceded by a cultural programme.

The city had witnessed rains accompanied by strong winds as late as last Sunday in the evening.
