The Kolkata Knight Riders set the Deccan Chargers a daunting target thanks to a top-class innings by Sourav Ganguly in their Indian Premier League match in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Ganguly posted a masterful 91 off 57 balls, finding gaps all around the field, although the area over mid-on was one which he plundered to especially good effect.

Few other batsmen looked as comfortable as Kolkata posted 204 for four thanks to Ganguly's inspired innings, in which he notched 11 fours and five sixes.

Chaminda Vaas had Salman Butt caught behind by Adam Gilchrist for an early wicket for the Chargers, before Ganguly and Aakash Chopra (24) combined for a stand of 69 in nine-and-a-half overs.

But there was even more punishment for Deccan after Herschelle Gibbs caught Chopra short with a direct hit from midwicket as Ganguly and David Hussey gave a masterclass in closing an innings.

They added 102 in eight overs before Ganguly top-edged a ball from Paidikalva Vijaykumar and was caught low at fine-leg by Rudra Pratap Singh.

Hussey was even more lethal as he blasted 57 not out off 29 balls with four fours and three sixes.

Laxmi Shukla sent two of this three balls racing to the boundary and the bumbling Deccan fielders then gifted six runs off the last ball as Pratap sent a wild throw streaking to the boundary.

Vijaykumar, with one for 21 in three overs, and spinner Venugopal Rao, who conceded just 24 runs in four overs, were the only bowlers to emerge with their reputations intact.
