Sector-16 Cricket Stadium, which can be termed the poorer cousin of Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, is going to get some Indian Premier League twenty-20 action.
IPL’s Team Mohali franchise owners are going to organize at least four matches there during the upcoming season of the league. Tentative match dates have been set at April 27, 29 and May 3 and 18. Final dates will be decided on Wednesday, said sources.
Team Mohali franchise owners have given an amount of Rs 10 lakh to the Chandigarh Cricket Association, said a senior UT official. UT officials and the franchise owners reached an agreement regarding this on Friday, said sources. The first match at the stadium will be between Team Mohali and Team Bangalore.
In the following matches, the local team will play against Jaipur, Chennai and Kolkata squads. “From the second match onwards, all games will be played under floodlights,” said an official. “A couple of firms have also visited the stadium to survey it for installing floodlights,” said sources.
