Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has turned down the chance to play in the IPL in order to take a break from cricket to stay fully fit for Australia.
Johnson's agent Sam Halvorsen said the bowler had turned down a six figure sum to play in the IPL.
"We want to protect him from the wear and tear," Halvorsen said. "The decision was made easier because of our concern over the auction process."
"He might have been able to play half the tournament but at this stage we feel as if the break will be better for him."
Johnson has enjoyed a successful year taking 57 test wickets and claiming the prestigious ICC cricketer of the year award in Dubai last month.
Halvorsen revealed there was a number of factors which made Johnson stay away from the IPL for a third year including the way the auction was run and how a player couldn't decided which team to play for or negotiate the size of his contract.
