The Kolkata Knight Riders beat off stuff competition to capture the New Zealand pace bowler Shane Bond for $750,000 after a silent auction.

Bond, who spent two years in the international wilderness after joining the Indian Cricket League was in high demand with bidding coming from Kolkata, Deccan Delhi, and Chennai.

The Daredevils were a prime location for the Bond who spent two years playing for the ICL's Delhi Giants. The Delhi based franchise were looking for a pace bowler to partner Ashish Nehra after they bought out the contract of Glenn McGrath.

But it was the Knight Riders who got their man, Kolkata were in a similar position to Delhi and they see Bond as a perfect fit to replace Pakistan's Umar Gul and Shoaib Akhtar who were unable to gain the nessacrey Visa to enter India.
