Ravi Bopara and Manvinder Bisla both scored half centuries as the Kings XI Punjab frustrated the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Bopara and Bisla slowly built a formidable opening partnership which reached 129 runs to help the Kings XI set the Royal Challengers a target of 204 for victory.
After a slow start Bisla opened up his bat to dispatch Jaques Kallis into the stands for a big six in the third over to signal his intent. Supported by Bopara, who was happy to turn the strike over, Bisla attacked the Royal Challengers bowlers racing along to half century in just 36 balls.
Unable to force the openers into any mistakes the Royal Challengers could only watch on as the Bopara and Bisla’s partnership reached three figures. With a century in his sights Bisla (75) was finally dismissed by Kallis but the damaged had already been done.
Yuvraj Singh (9) suffered another failure with the bat but with Bisla departed Bopara came to the fore smashing Praveen Kumar for three consecutive fours to race past 50.
Bopara (77) enjoyed a rapid partnership of 53 with Mahela Jayawardene (26) before he was finally dismissed in the last over to help the Kings XI reach 203-3 and leave the Royal Challengers a big run chase under the lights.
