Paul Collingwood scored an important half century to help the Delhi DareDevils record a 37 run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore to move within 2 point of the Mumbai Indians at the top of the IPL group table.
Collingwood’s innings rescued the DareDevils after their top order failed to fire as the Englishmen helped set the visitors a target of 187 for victory.

The Royal Challengers got of to a slow start chasing down the target with Jacques Kallis and Cameron White treating the game as a 50 over contest. White (4), who had been moved up the order to partner Kallis didn’t last long losing his wicket in the third over.

Kallis was joined by Kevin Pietersen and the pair built a partnership of 27 which took an amazing 6 overs to complete before Pietersen (16) was bowled by Pradeep Sangwan.

Robin Uthappa (12) and Ross Taylor (22) both fell cheaply to leave the Royal Challengers 106-4 still needing another 81 runs from just over 6 overs.

Kallis remain at the crease until he passed his half century before picking out Collingwood out on the boundary as Sangwan picked up his third wicket to leave the visitors in deep trouble.

Rahul Dravid (14), Virat Kohli (13) and Vinay Kumar (3) offered little resistant’s as the Royal Challengers slumped to a 37 run defeat.

Having won the toss the DareDevils got off to a slow start as the Royal Challengers opened their bowling attack with Anil Kumble who conceded just 2 runs in the first over before Virender Sehwag started to hit out.

The Indian batsman smashed 2 boundaries off the bowling of Vinay Kumar in the second over before dispatching Kumble into the stands for a six as he raced to 29 from just 20 balls.

Abhimanyu Mithun was carved over cover point by Sehwag (35) before the bowler responded with a short ball which clipped Sehwag’s gloves and dropped down onto his stumps to give the Royal Challengers an early break through.

Gautam Gambhir (1) soon followed after he was run out by a direct throw by KP Appanna to leave the DareDevils 52-2.

The recovery was lead by David Warner; the Aussie had played a quiet supporting role during Sehwags cameo but now he took centre stage smashing Appanna for two huge sixes in the 8th over as the DareDevils threatened to run riot.

With runs starting to flow Kumble brought himself back into the bowling attack and immediately picked up the wicket of Warner (33) after the opener was caught out on the boundary by Virat Kohli.

Dinesh Karthick (6) was dismissed cheaply before Paul Collingwood launched a blitz on Cameron White smashing two sixes and a four as the Aussie conceded 19 runs in the 12th over to give the DareDevils fresh hope of posting a big total.

Collingwood (75) recorded his second half century in this years IPL with a huge six over long on as he built a partnership of 60 with Daniel Vettori (20) to help the DareDevils reach 186-5.
