The Royal Challengers Bangalore’s match against the Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore was delayed for over an hour after a small explosion outside of the stadium.
The blast, which occurred about 15 minutes before the game was due to start injured four policemen and a private security guard after a package was left behind a wall near Gate Number 12 at the stadium.

After conducting a search around the outside of the ground police found another bomb outside of Gate 8 which was set to go off at 2200 local time to coincide with the end of the game.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the bombing but it will have highlighted security fears ahead of the IPL semi finals which are due to take place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said a crude home made bomb hidden inside a plastic bag was the cause of the blast which sent panic through the crowds of people still queuing to get inside the stadium.

"At about 3.15 pm a minor blast has taken place in the wall adjacent to the gate no 12 of the stadium. Four constables were hurt - two were minor injuries. One security guard has been hurt seriously," said Mr Shankar Bidari, the city Police Commissioner.

"It appears that some explosives may have been hidden in the wall . There is no cause for panic. The game will go on. The bomb-experts are investigating. Perhaps, the explosives were placed behind a plastic board which was on the board. It was a single-brick wall. The explosives weren't powerful," he added.

The game was due to begin at 1600 (1030 GMT) but was delayed for an hour while police sniffer dogs searched the area for further devices before play was allowed to begin a 1700 local time.

"A team investigating the whole thing to find out the reason for the blast. The situation is under control," Karnataka Home Minister V S Acharya said.
