Having watched on as his teammates suffered a 6 wicket defeat in the World Cup final Angelo Matthews has suffered further heartache with the news that he will be sidelined for up to eight weeks with a leg injury.
The injury, which forced him to miss the World Cup final on Saturday means the 23 years old will miss the entire IPL season for the Pune Warriors.
The all rounder pulled a muscle during Sri Lanka’s semi final victory over the Kiwis.
"I have pulled a muscle. I am finding it difficult to walk, it will take about eight weeks to heal," said Matthews after the World Cup final.
With up to eight weeks out Matthews will hope to be fully fit in time for Sri Lanka’s tour of England which gets underway in May with the World Cup runners up playing three Test and five one day internationals.
