Daniel Vettori and Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad held their nerve to help the Royal Challengers Bangalore seal a 3 wicket victory over the Delhi DareDevils to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knock out stages alive.
The pair built a vital 8th wicket partnership of 22 to help seal victory with 3 deliveries remaining, Vettori (18) lead the way with dispatching a boundary and a six as the game ended in dramatic fashion.
Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli lead the way with a 2nd wicket partnership of 82 but a middle order collapse left Vettori and Syed Mohammad (13) to seal the victory.
James Hopes scored a vital half century to help the DareDevils set the Royal Challengers a victory target of 161 in a must win game for both sides at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
Despite the early loss of Tillakaratne Dilshan (0) who was dismissed by Ashok Dinda in the first over, the Royal took control of the match thanks to Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli who shared a 2nd wicket partnership of 82.
After scoring a match winner century against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Gayle played the support role to Kohli who lead the Royal Challengers run chase with a string of impressive shots as he raced to 47 from just 29 balls.
With the partnership increasing the DareDevils made a vital break though in the 8th over when Gayle (26) top edged a delivery from James Hopes which was caught by Venugopal Rao down on the deep square leg boundary.
New batsman AB de Villiers (5) followed Gayle back 8 deliveries later thanks to an excellent piece of fielding from David Warner who run out the South Africa with a direct hit from deep square leg.
With the game on a knife edge the DareDevils struck again to remove Kohli (56) 2 deliveries later after he was bowled by Albie Morkel to leave the DareDevils 96-4.
Cheteshwar Pujara (7) quickly followed but Vettori and Tiwary (18) held their nerve to record a 6th wicket partnership of 32 to keep the game in the balance
Although Morne Morkel struck twice in the 17th over Vettori and Syed Mohammad remained calm to seal victory for the visitors.
Hopes (54) played a vital role for the DareDevils after the home sides top order failed to fire, the Aussie, who was caught off a no ball from Abhimanyu Mithun in 15th over smashed 7 fours during his 43 ball innings to help the home side reach 160-6.
Venugopal Rao (24) played another important innings but the middle order batsman will be disappointed after throwing away his wicket with a rash slog from a delivery from Daniel Vettori in the 16th over which hit his middle stump.
Despite Hopes recovery the Royals Challengers fought their way back into the game with the wickets of Hopes and Venugopal Rao but Naman Ojha (16) and Irfan Pathan (13) ensured the visitors would have a tricky run chase.
Having enjoyed an opening partnership of 146 against the Kings XI Punjab on Saturday night the DareDevils failed to replicate a similar start against the Royals Challengers after the subdued David Warner (7) was bowled by Zaheer Khan in the 5th over.
The visitor’s joy was increased two overs later when Virender Sehwag (25) was run out by AB de Villiers who whipped off the bails after some excellent fielding by Mithun at short fine leg to leave the DareDevils 43-2.
After the fireworks against the Kings XI the DareDevils top order failed to fire as Matthew Wade’s (8) return to the line up lasted 9 deliveries before he was bowled by Mithun.
