The Mumbai Indians hopes of moving 4 points clear at the top of the IPL group standings took a blow after they were restricted to a total of only 96-8 against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
The Indians struggled on a slow turning wicket which the Royals took advantage of with spinners Johan Botha (6-3), Ashok Menaria (20-2) and Shane Warne (13-1) led the way to restrict the Indians to their lowest ever total in the IPL.
Having been put into bat the Indians got off to a steady start thanks to Davy Jacobs who quickly scored 15 runs before he was bowled by Amit Singh at the start of the 4th over.
The Royals advantage was increased an over later when Sachin Tendulkar (7) became Menaria’s first IPL wicket after he was stumped by Dishant Harendra Yagnik.
The 20 year old struck again in his next over to dismiss Ambati Rayudu (11) before Royals skipper Warne increased the Indians troubles when Rohit Sharma (13) was caught by Johan Botha to leave the visitors 50-4 after 10 overs.
With the pressure mounting Andrew Symonds and Kieron Pollard offered the visitors hope with a 5th wicket partnership of 18 but Pollard’s disappointing tournament with the bat continued when he was dismissed by Botha in the 16th over.
Symonds (17), Rajagopal Sathish (7) and Lasith Malinga quickly followed as the Indians lost 3 wickets in the space of 7 deliveries to end their innings 94-8 thank to Harbhajan Singh who smashed a six ff the final delivery of the innings.
