The Deccan Chargers cruised to a comprehensive 6 wicket victor over the Pune Warriors to end the home sides faint play off hopes at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
Kumar Sangakkara’s side easily cruised to victory, making easy work of the Warriors victory target of 137 to record their 5th victory of the tournament.
Shikhar Dhawan and Sunny Sohal got the Chargers off to a good start thanks to an opening stand of 67 as the openers made light work of a potentially tricky the run chase.
The Warriors briefly thought back when the openers were dismissed in quick succession, but Sangakkara, playing in his last game before he joins up with his Sri Lankan teammates for their tour of England led the way home with a quick fire 25.
JP Duminy (23) and Daniel Christian (14) offered support as the Chargers punished the Warriors who looked like a side who had nothing to play for instead of a team with an outside chance of reaching the play offs.
The Warriors got off to a good start thanks to Jessie Ryder and Pandey, who shared an opening stand of 31 after the home side was put into bat by Chargers skipper Sangakkara.
The pair got the innings off to a flying start, dispatching a boundary and a six off the bowling of part time spinner JP Duminy in the opening over.
Despite this promising start, the wheels soon fell off the Warriors innings after Ryder (18) was dismissed by Dale Steyn at the end of the 4th over thanks to an excellent diving catch by Ravi Teja in the covers.
With the break through made the Chargers increased their advantage two overs later thanks to Daniel Christian who ended Sourav Ganguly (0) stay at the crease after just 5 deliveries.
Pandey (23) quickly followed after his middle stump was uprooted by Pragyan Ojha at the start of the 7th over to reduce the Warriors to 45-3.
With the pressure mounting on the home side, Amit Mishra struck twice to remove Robin Uthappa (4) and Mithun Manhas (0) from consecutive deliveries in the following over to leave the Warriors in deep trouble.
Yuvraj Singh and Callum Ferguson halted the collapse with a 6th wicket stand of 28 but, before, the pair could push on JP Duminy halted their charge by removing Ferguson (11) at the start of the 12th over.
Having seen his top order skittled out, Yuvraj would have known the importants of remaining at the crease for the remainder of the innings but the Warriors skipper quickly followed Ferguson back to the dug out after he was dismissed by Christian at the end of the 15th over.
With the side in free fall Mitchell Marsh and Wayne Parnell held the Chargers back with a vital 8th wicket stand of 35 which was ended by Pragyan Ojha who removed Marsh (37) at the start of the final over.
With Marsh back in the dug out Parnell (16) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1) added 9 more valuable runs to leave the Chargers facing a run chase of 137.
