The Kolkata Knight Riders won their second game in a row thanks to a five wicket victory over the Rajasthan Royals in a low scoring encounter at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Faced with a victory target of 132, Jacques Kallis (31) and Manvinder Bisla (29) got the Knight Riders off to a good start before they lost their way against the Royals spinners.
It proved to be a trick run chase with the Royals picking up wickets at regular intervals to stay in contention as they looked to bounce back after suffering their first defeat of the tournament against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday night.
With the pressure mounting Shakib Al Hasan (16) steered the Knight Roders towards victory before Ryan ten Doeschate (7) sealed the two points with a six off the bowling of Ankeet Chavan (0-32) with fours balls to spare.
The Royals posted a total of 131-5 after Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to bat first on a slow wicket which proved difficult to bat on against the home side’s spinners with Shakib Al Hasan (3-17) leading the way.
The Royals got off to a steady start thanks to Dravid (28) and Ajinkya Rahane (19) who put on an opening stand of 45 before the visitors lost three wickets in the space of two overs.
With Dravid, Rahane and Ashok Menaria (0) back in the dug out, Owais Shah (31) and Shreevats Goswami (24) ensured the Royals would have a competitive total to defend.
