Jessie Ryder and Steven Smith steered the Pune Warriors to an impressive seven wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune.
The pair shared a 4th wicket stand of 66 to help the Warriors record their third victory in this years tournament after they suffered a disappointing defeat against the Kings XI Punjab earlier this week.
Ryder lead the way with an impressive knock of 73 from 56 balls which included seven boundaries and one six to help secure victory with four balls remaining.
Smith offered the Kiwi perfect support with a well timed cameo of 44 after Robin Uthappa (10), Sourav Ganguly (16) and Marlon Samuels (8) all failed with the bat.
Having batted first, the Super Kings recorded a total of 155-5 on a flat batting track thanks to a quick fire 44 from Ravindra Jadeja who smashed four boundaries and two sixes.
Faf du Plessis got the innings off to the perfect start with an impressive 43 from 33 balls to take the lead as the IPL’s leading run scorer before he was dismissed by Rahul Sharma (2-16) in the 10th over.
With the exception of du Plessis and Jadeja, the Super King stop order struggled with Murali Vijay (8), Suresh Raina (20) and MS Dhoni (26) all failing to make substantial contributions to leave the Warriors facing a run chase of 156.
