The Delhi DareDevils strengthened their place at the top of the IPL group standings thanks to 37 run demolition of the Mumbai Indians at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
Faced with a mammoth run chase of 208 the Indians put up little fight as they slipped to their fourth defeat of the tournament to leave them with plenty of work to do in the second half of the group stages.
The DareDevils big three of Virender Sehwag (73), Mahela Jayawardene (55) and Kevin Pietersen were at their explosive best to help the home side post a total of 207-5.
Sehwag and Jayawardene lead the way with an opening stand of 135 which put the home side in control of the match after Harbhajan Singh won the toss and elected to bowl.
Even the loss of Jayawardene in the 14th over didn’t slow the DareDevils down thanks to an explosive innings from Pietersen who smashed a 25 ball half century which included six boundaries and three sixes.
With a mountain to climb the Indians lost Aiden Blizzard (0), Sachin Tendulkar (7) and Rohit Sharma (12) early on and despite Amabti Rayudu (62) and Dinesh Karthik (40) offering some resistant the visitors slumped to defeat.
